Adopt a Silky

Deltessa are a small kennel who breeds primarily for exhibiting Silkies in the show ring. As a consequence we do not breed large numbers of Silkies on a regular basis. Our practice is to maintain a waiting list. If you are thinking about a puppy from us you may have to wait a little while. However, with some planning and a bit of patience you could be the proud owner of an Australian Silky Terrier.

All of our mating’s, are carefully and selectively chosen, with full consideration to the conformation, temperament and health of the puppies being born. We are proud to produce champion show dogs as well as loving, treasured and healthy companions.

Our puppies are raised in the home with us, getting accustomed to the hustle and bustle of everyday life. They are well socialized with different people, sounds and experiences. Puppies that leave here for their own family will always still be a part of our family, and for that reason we would love to hear how they are doing and see photographs of them regularly. We do not take our role of Breeder lightly and encourage families to remain in contact with us long after they receive a Silky from us. We bring would like to remain part of their lives forever.

Those puppies not destined for the show ring are just as beautiful and loving, often the reason we have decided one way or another can be very small.  Sometimes life situations change and you may find you are unable to keep one of our puppies, we have first option to take them back or find them a new home.

Raising a Deltessa Silky is a serious task. So don't be offended if we ask a lot of questions before agreeing to sell you a puppy. We want to feel comfortable that the puppies we place are going to homes where they will be welcome for life as full members of the family, with all of their needs being met. We will also get to know you and do our best to ensure that the puppy we choose for each family is the best choice for the life they will lead. Silkies are like people. They have a many varied personalities. Some puppies will be suited to showing or working and others are not. Some will have lots of energy, while some would be happier with a slightly lazier lifestyle. There are some that would be perfect in a noisy household with lots of activity and noise, while others would be better suited to a quieter, gentler home. While we may ask questions of you, we also expect you to ask us a lot of questions! Remember, the dumbest question is the one not asked!

There are times when we have available Silkies who have finished their showing career and are looking for a loving home in which to spend their retirement years. When these dogs have finished their show & breeding career, they are ready to settle down to a life of spoiling in special homes. There are many advantages to adopting an older Silky. We have already worked through their puppy and teenage years. They have undergone their house, toilet and behavioural training. You will not lose your favourite pair of shoes to a puppy who is teething! There is also less chance of accidents in the house too and they love to be brushed and groomed. They are also lead trained and love their daily walks with their companions.

All of our Silkies will be sold under a written contract of sale that outlines our commitments to you and your commitments to us. These contracts will vary a little depending on whether you are buying a prospective show Silky or one for companionship. Those puppies chosen for companions will be registered on the ANKC limited register and sold with a clause requiring you to have them de sexed. We have dedicated many years into our lines and pedigrees and this is to ensure that the quality of the Australian Silky Terrier in Australia is protected as much as possible.

Please feel free to contact us to discuss your potential adoption of one of these special Silkies. Send us an email or give us a call. We are always happy to talk about the breed and answer any questions you may have. If we don’t know the answer we will find one for you!
